چکیده

This paper reports the optimisation of the low-frequency response of a multi-stage bioelectric amplifier intended for use in the measurement of the electrocardiogram (ECG) using un-gelled electrodes. The frequency response was optimised to meet the International Electrotechnical Commission 60601 performance standards for electrocardiographs [1,2]. The low frequency response of a multi-stage amplifier configuration was optimised to meet both time and frequency domain specifications. The optimum circuit configuration was found to be two differential stages with a gain of 20dB each and a differential-to single-ended output stage with unity gain. The -3dB pole is placed at 0.028Hz and a zero at 0.0028Hz in the first and second stages giving an overall -3dB bandwidth of 0.043Hz. The pole of the input ac coupling network was placed at 0.0028Hz in order to meet the undershoot and recovery slope requirements in the response to a narrow pulse. Key-Words: Electrode Impedance, Un-gelled electrodes, Heart rate monitoring, ECG amplifier.

Time-Domain Response of ECG Bioelectric Amplifiers

This paper investigates the low-frequency response of a multi-stage bioelectric amplifier intended for use in the measurement of the electrocardiogram (ECG) using dry contact electrodes. These electrodes have an impedance which is typically an order of magnitude greater than that of the standard disposable self-adhesive electrodes used in clinical ECG recording. The design was undertaken with t...

A 6.7μW CMOS Bioamplifier for Active Electrode with DC Rejection

Since the fabrication of active electrodes has been reported and their beneficial effects scientifically confirmed, we present a CMOS bioelectric amplifier with DC rejection designed for active electrode in this paper. Analysis, design and post simulation results will be described in detail. The amplifier operating at ±0.9V supply voltage has a mid-band gain of 40dB with ±300mV dc offset reject...

An Improved Micro-power Pre-amplifier for Dry-electrode ECG Recording

This paper describes the development of a very low-power pre-amplifier intended for use in pasteless-electrode recording of the human electrocardiogram. The expected input signal range is 100μV 10mV from a lead II electrode configuration. The amplifier provides a gain of 42dB in a 3dB bandwidth of 0.05Hz 2kHz with an input impedance of 280MΩ and a CMRR of greater than 80dB. Its gain and phase c...

A Low-Power Portable ECG Touch Sensor with Two Dry Metal Contact Electrodes

This paper describes the development of a low-power electrocardiogram (ECG) touch sensor intended for the use with two dry metal electrodes. An equivalent ECG extraction circuit model encountered in a ground-free two-electrode configuration is investigated for an optimal sensor read-out circuit design criteria. From the equivalent circuit model, (1) maximum sensor resolution is derived based on...

Electrical Characterisation of Dry Electrodes for ECG Recording

This paper reports the measurement of the properties of dry or pasteless conductive electrodes to be used for long-term recording of the human electrocardiogram (ECG). Knowledge of these properties is essential for the correct design of the input stage of associated recording amplifiers. Measurements were made on seven commercially available conductive carbon based electrodes at pressures of 5m...
